Menerbes (Vaucluse)
Menerbes is a fortified village in the heart of Luberon, built on a rocky outcrop in the shape of a boat. The famous painters Picasso, Nicolas de Staël, Georges Pojidaieff (buried in the cemetery), lived here. Menerbes is ranked among the 'most beautiful villages of France'.
The medieval character of Ménerbes gives it great charm. In the heart of the Luberon and home to many artists, Menerbes is one of the finest and most authentic villages of the Luberon.
Featured in Peter Mayle's book 'A Year in Provence' the book tells the tale of a British expatriate writer who settled in the village.
Menerbes is located 12 kilometers east of Cavaillon, between Oppede and Lacoste in the Vaucluse department of Provence.
Between Christmas and new year a truffle fair is held in the village.
